2019 CANVAS YORK
Event Details Coming Soon!
As professionals with a passion for the arts and for our home of York, PA, the employees at Warehaus were driven to put our creative energies into a community program we can support year after year. In 2018, we launched our first annual CANVAS YORK Student Art Competition to great success, inviting over 100 guests into our studio to view student artwork on First Friday – November 2. On display were beautiful and imaginative interpretations of York City, expressed through the creativity of middle and high school artists from York City school districts.
“Our employees are passionate about the arts and supporting the York community. By connecting students with our studio and other artists and businesses within York, together we are investing in the future of our community and giving center stage to emerging young talent.”
– Deb Olschefski, Chief People Officer for Warehaus.
Students in grades 6-12 in participating school districts within York City were invited to submit an 11”x 14” drawing or painting that represented their vision for the York community. Submissions were awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for both 6-8th Grade Submissions and 9th-12th Grade Submissions, judged by a panel of notable local artists including Chief Creative Officer of Wolf Design Partners Bob Wolf, graphic designer and professor Tom Notarangelo, and fine artists Brenda Wintermyer, Carol Oldenburg, and xxxxx. Visitors were also able to vote for their favorite artwork – which won a Community Prize. Individual prizes were aimed at encouraging continued artistic expression and exploration. The school with the most submissions – York Catholic High School- was also awarded a Participation Prize of $250 to be used towards their school’s art program.
Over 30 employees participated in event activities – including planning the showcase, designing and constructing displays and hosting the festivities. Employees also baked desserts to share with visitors and additional refreshments were generously donated by the York Pretzel Company, Tutonis and Revival Social Club. Visitors were also entertained with a scavenger hunt, making it a fun event for the whole family.
