Former FEMA trailer housing Kreutz Creek Library for 40 years

We listen.

Warehaus has been a partner of the YCL system for many years, and provided an analysis of the physical conditions and a repair/maintenance plan for each of the six buildings in the library system. This report drives the York Country Library Systems’ facility management maintenance strategy, including the Kreutz Creek Library building. Since the 1970’s, the library was housed in a former FEMA trailer that the library had outgrown. After 40 years, the dream of a bigger library has come to fruition with the revealing of the new Kreutz Creek Library.

We design.

The new library is seven times larger than the previous FEMA trailer, making room for numerous enhancements, including more book shelving, seating, and computers and ample windows to let in natural light. The entrance guides visitors into a spacious vestibule leading into a huge circulation and welcome desk. Visitors can enjoy comfortable lounge seating and new quiet rooms for studying and creating – with monitors and white boards. A new dedicated teen space provides comfortable seating, wifi access and device chargers, space for events, and a mini maker-space cart with a variety of supplies. The children’s area features play space, window seats, and access to outdoor space with a fenced-in patio and garden.

The staff can enjoy enhancements including new offices, a work-break room and climate-controlled space for donated item storage and preparation for events. Kreutz Creek Library Branch Manager Susan Nenstiel commented, “Library staff, friends of the library, volunteers, donors and the local community – everyone is excited to take part in and witness this exciting time in Kreutz Creek Library’s history.” The library opened in early 2022.
