York Country Day Entryway Before Renovations

We listen.

An affiliate of York College of Pennsylvania, York Country Day School’s mission to inspire the creative spirit of their students motivated the administration’s desire to improve its STEAM programs. They also identified the need for a new approach to the 16-acre campus so that a welcoming front façade that truly reflects their 21st century project-based learning philosophy graces the arrival to campus.

We design.

Warehaus applied its unique Design Delivery Process to make their dollars go further by uncovering and meeting additional needs such as a more centralized and open library, an updated cafeteria, a central living core for the learning community and the renovation of some of the existing classrooms while still staying within budget.

Auditorium performing arts center as the central hub of learning in York Country Day School STEAM facility

We deliver.

Located on a hill leading up to campus, the new 73,000 sf STEAM facility features an abundance of windows that stream natural light and provide sweeping views of the surrounding natural elements. A new entryway leads visitors into an open lobby with a grand amphitheater used for school-wide gatherings and public functions. The lobby also offers students the comforts of home, with a living room and space to lounge in front of a fireplace. The interior is accented in school colors (red and gray) and warmed with wood features throughout. The new auditorium/performing arts center is the central hub of learning and can transition into a multi-functional hack-space for project work, presentations and critiques. Laboratories and maker-spaces which supports sound design, video production and robotics curriculums surround the auditorium. Learning spaces encourage collaboration and design thinking, and provide opportunities to practice a variety of STEAM trades, like welding, digital design, and audiovisual works.
