A Welcoming Environment to Connect with Adopters

The York County SPCA embarked on an exciting project to renovate and reimagine the Brougher Companion Animal Shelter lobby at their facility on North Susquehanna Trail. Thanks to the generosity of donors, they can invest in the future welfare of animals in their care with facility upgrades that align with the transformative changes taking place at the SPCA, particularly the implementation of their Adopters Welcome policy. Steven Martinez, Executive Director of the York County SPCA, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This intentional design plan creates more functional space that will allow us to better serve our mission and community through enhanced events, education opportunities, and a better adoption experience. Creating a welcoming space will help us decrease the length of stay for our adoptable animals and enhance our position as York County’s animal resource center.”

The facility improvements include several key enhancements. The lobby, cat corridor, and cat condos will undergo updates with improved lighting, new paint, windows, and doors. The addition of a new greeter desk and modular customer service desks will enable staff to have focused conversations with community members. Ceiling panels will be installed to improve sound quality, and lobby TVs will showcase shelter news, events, and adoptable pets. A medium-sized multi-purpose room can host meet-and-greets with adoptable pets, and also serve as a gathering place for staff, volunteers, and the community. The lobby furniture will be movable to accommodate larger community events.

We design.

The current layout will be updated to include a training room, toilet room, hallway facades, ceilings, and private counseling areas for SPCA staff and public use. The aim is to create a bright, inviting, and modern interior that utilizes multifunctional spaces and encourages more community engagement. The design will feature a neutral color palette with vibrant accents, while the furniture solutions will prioritize easy cleanability, movability, and storability. Additionally, green-painted accent walls throughout the space will allow for the use of green screen photo technology, providing limitless possibilities for adoption and donor acknowledgment photos.

We deliver.

With the goal of creating a happier and healthier space for cats and small animals, the renovated area will be more versatile and functional. By removing barriers and establishing a more personal and welcoming environment, the SPCA aims to connect with adopters and facilitate optimal love matches with their animals. The construction project did not affect the operations of the York County SPCA high-volume spay/neuter clinic, ensuring that essential services continued without interruption.
